Admissions of about 500 medical students to be cancelled in UP and Tamil Nadu

Following the directions of MCI (Medical Council of India) some private colleges in the Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will soon cancel the admission of some 500 odd students. These are the students who did not appear for the NEET exam. According to the MCI secretary Dr Reena Nayyar around 17 to 18 colleges have been issued notices and have been asked to cancel the admission of these students.Backdoor admissions According to a senior MCI official, these admissions are being suspected as the backdoor admissions which were done after receiving the capitation fee. UP and Tamil Nadu are among the states who have opted for NEET exam. A private college in TN has been issued a notice to cancel the admission of 36 students as it was done under the violation of the norms. Dr. Nayyar said "The monitoring committee of MCI found that these institutes have admitted students who did not appear for the NEET exam despite the states opting for NEET.""Such admissions are illegal as the concerned states had opted for NEET and so they cannot bypass it," she said.Like MCI, DCI (Dental Council of India) is also examining for such admission cases in dental colleges."We have received complaints about illegal admissions in dental colleges in states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and we are scrutinizing such admissions which were done ignoring NEET," Dr A K Chandna, a member of DCI, said.
