MP Universities to replace convocation robes with the traditional Indian dresses

After all the outrage spread by the students if Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi over the issue of full covered decent western or Indian dresses on the occasion of house day, Madhya Pradesh chief Minister also made an announcement in which he asked the students to wear robes on convocation ceremony. On the occasion of first convocation ceremony of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Madhya Pradesh, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wore a saffron colored turban and stole and similar attire was put on by the Higher Education Minister Jaybhan Singh Pawaiya. In similar manner all students present during the ceremony also dressed themselves in yellow turbans and same colored stoles. Also, all the girl students wore saree whereas boys were in Kurta Pyajamas. State education minister said "Indian dresses will replace robes during convocation in universities across Madhya Pradesh in the next academic session." Meanwhile, O P Kholi, Governor of Madhya Pradesh, could not attend the ceremony due to some heath issues.BJP ruled Madhya PradeshFrom quite some time, under the rule of BJP in Madhya Pradesh, wearing gowns and hats has become a matter of debate in the state. BJP has been advocating for Indian dresses in place of gowns and hats in convocation ceremony. In addition to all this, Chouhan said, the perception that English as a language is superior than Hindi should be discouraged in the nation and the subject of moral science will be included in the syllabus. During the ceremony, Around 156 students were given degrees of graduation, post-graduation and MPhil.
