Just come, Eat and Go is the new meaning of the schooling: Javadekar
Mid-day meals were introduced in the schools to keep the dropout rate of the students as low as possible and for the purpose of providing nourishment to children from weaker section of the society. But schools nowadays, as it appears has become more about food and less about education, said Union home minister for Human Resource Development. He also said that his ministry is also planning a bill which will allow detention of the students who fail to reach a minimum level of learning in class v and class VII. Many schools have become mid-day meal schools and these schools have been reduced to coming, eating and going, said Prakash Javadekar. The states are now demanding a change in the current no-detention policy and it is a serious problem that a student of class VI is unable to read a lesson from the class II book and class VII student is unable to solve the mathematics question of class III. On the current situation the minister said "his ministry has taken up the situation as a challenge and now learning outcomes for all classes have been brought in. To improve quality of education, it has been decided that states which take steps to improve standards, will get additional funds under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan." The ministry of Javadekar has now taken up the responsibility of improving the slipping standard of education. The ministry earlier this year also made class 10 board exams compulsory and also introduced a uniform pattern of exams and evaluation for the students. The measures were taken following the demands of the parents, said Prakash Javadekar.
