No reservation provision for civilian students in Army schools

During the question hour, Rajya Sabha was informed that there is no provision for admission for civilian students in Army School but children from local areas are admitted only to the seats which are left vacant.Minister of State for Defense, Subhash Bhamre said that these schools are not run by government and for admissions first preference is given to the ward of the defense personnel.Giving details on the admissions of civilian children Bhamre told, in 2017-18, seven VIP references were received by the schools out which only four were granted admission. Similarly, in 2015-16 26 VIP references were made out of which only four cases were granted admission in Army school and rest were denied because of the unavailability of the seats.Shedding lights on the fee details he said that for the ward of the defense personnel, fee is based on the rank of the army personnel and for the civilian students, the fee is comparable to the fee of the private schools in the same area.
