Faculty Recruitment: DU to soon advertise the vacancies

In an attempt to address the long standing issue of vacant seats in Delhi University, it is expected that university will advertise the openings for as many 4500 teachers in coming few days. "There are only a few colleges left which are yet to make corrections in their 'reservations roster', we are in correspondence with them. We had called a meeting of all college principals on May 3 and had asked them to make corrections. In a few days, when the reservation rosters will be cleared for all the colleges, vacancies will be advertised," said DU Dean of Colleges Devesh Sinha. However, the dean refrained from disclosing the number of days which the university may take in finalizing and completing the recruitment process."For all I know, it may be done tomorrow, or may take some more time. But in all likelihood, it is a matter of few days... Colleges are autonomous, they have independent governing bodies. They are the appointing authorities," Sinha told.Delhi University Teachers Association  (DUTA) president Nandita Narain expressed her satisfaction as university is finally gearing up to recruit the new teachers for the vacant posts but she was also concerned about the ad-hoc teachers and demanded that recruitment process should be considerate towards teachers which are working in the University on ad-hoc basis from quite some time now."We also want the Executive Council (of DU) to devise a mechanism wherein ad-hoc teachers of vintage can be absorbed without their having to go through interview, which they already have gone through once, when they were first hired," Narain said.With regard to admissions of the students she said, at this point noting can be said with certainty but the process is most likely to commence in first week of June.
