Teachers can take more than one attempt for the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET): Madras HC

Madras High Court ruled that now teachers do not have to clear the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in one attempt and also granted an interim injunction which does not allow the state government to insist on the same. According to the reports, R Sathiamurthi, Assistant, SKDJ Higher Secondary School BT, filed a petition which challenged the Director of School Education's directive,  which enforced that teachers have to pass the TET test in one attempt in order to keep their jobs. About the petition While filing the petition, the petitioner referred to the provisions of RTE ACT of 2009.It has asked for time until March 31, 2019 in order to restrain school education department from enforcing the condition of one attempt only. The petitioner stated "a School Education Department order and a National Council for Teacher Education notification mentioned that TET should be conducted at least once per year, which makes it mandatory for the Tamil Nadu to conduct one, or more than one, TET every year". In the plea it was also pointed that no such test has been conducted by the government and no valid reason have been provided for providing only one attempt.Sathiamurthi  said "the provisions of the RTE Act had been amended after a batch of petitions were filed on January 2017 to extend the time limit fixed to acquire the minimum qualification up to March 31, 2019."He further said " on March 1, a directive was issued by the Director of School Education to clear the exam in a single attempt."
