Committee to look into DU's students' mass failure in computer practical
In order to look into the complaints of the students from different colleges about failing their computer practical, DU has formed a committee which will investigate into the matter. Computer application is a compulsory subject for the students studying in various streams and failing a compulsory subject means dropping a year. Most of the students who have failed in the exam belong to BCom (Hons.) and BCom program. The committee was formed by the DU after there were protests from students and other organizations against the alleged mass failure. “The committee has been formed and the members will decide on what action needs to be taken,” a senior university official said. The subject is the official part of the curriculum during the fifth semester. The subject is of total 100 marks of which 40 marks are of practical, 45 of theory and 15 marks are of internal assessment. 40 marks of practical are divided into 10 marks for the workbook and the rest 30 marks are given by the external examiner. In order to pass the practical, students are required to score 16 marks out of 40 but the students alleged that they were not informed about this. “The examination department did not tell us anything about it. Now we will lose a year,” said Afreen Naaz, a third-year student of BR Ambedkar College who “failed by just one mark”.DU said that the final decision will be taken soon and students will be informed about the same on July 14.“I hope the decision is in our favor. Otherwise, we will lose a year. It is not even an Honors subject we have failed,” a student of Aurobindo College, who did not wish to be named, said.
