Regular schools may soon follow the Sainik school model

Regular schools may soon follow the Sainik school model

PMO's office recently advised HRD ministry to think about including the elements of military schools in order to promote discipline, physical fitness and patriotic outlook in the regular schools as well. A report from Indian Express said "it was learned that the Prakash Javadekar-led ministry was exploring ways to introduce Sainik School-like features in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). It has also discussed the PMO's suggestion with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to which about 20,000 private schools across the country are affiliated". Sainik schools were conceived by the Defence Minister VK Krishna Menon in 1961. The main aim of these schools is to prepare the youngsters for the defense services.According the sources ministry thinks that it would be simple for them to replicate the elements of the Sainik schools in JNVs and other residential schools. Residential schools are known for providing the quality education to the children, which are selected through the entrance test. Not only this but also, the students have to join the National Cadet Cops (NCC) and go rigorous physical training which helps them in leading a disciplined life and bring in the patriotic values.According to the PMO office, inclusion of such elements in the schools will provide the best atmosphere to the students in which they can grow to become responsible citizens of the nation. This idea was first mooted by the government last year in the 64h meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CBBE) held in October.
