Guidelines for the 20 world class research Universities are ready: Javadekar
Replying to a question during the Question Hour in Lok Sabha, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the guidelines and proposals for setting 20 world class research universities in India are ready and will soon get the go-ahead from the government. Once established these universities will pave the path for research and innovation in the nation. "The guidelines are ready. The proposal is in final shape and I am very hopeful and very sure that this proposal will get the final nod in this (monsoon session)," said Javadekar. The question regarding the government's plan to set up 20 world class universities in India was raised by Trinamool Congress leader Sugata Bose. The plan to open 20 world class research universities in India was announced by the government last year. "We need to grow. Today we have the concept of learning in diversity. Students from many countries come together, learn and do research together," Javadekar said. "Foreign professors as well as Indian professors will make these world class institutes really world class. We will be calling them the 'Indian institutes of eminence'," the HRD minister added. He further added that in 10 year these 20 institutes are supposed to get the world class status."They will be acclaimed and ranked among the top 200 universities in the world," he said.
