Class 10-12 students in govt. schools of Delhi to get career counseling



Students studying in the class 10 and class 12 of the govt. schools run by Delhi government will soon start receiving career counseling from the experts. These experts will also help the students in dealing with their personal problems, as told by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.From the upcoming session the government is also starting merit-cum-means fee waiver scheme for the needy students who wishes to pursue higher education in any of the six established universities of the state. “There are around four lakh students enrolled in classes 10-12 in Delhi government schools. So far there has been no provision of providing any counseling to them for making informed career choices and deal with any emotional problems at a personal level,” Sisodia told reporters. “We have tied up with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), counselors have been appointed and their training process began today. They will offer one-on-one counseling for students, data of which will also be made available online and experts roped in for the purpose,” he said.Sisodia further told that only 3 percent of the total schools in Delhi have counseling provision. The minister also announced the fee waiver scheme on merit-cum-means scheme for the students who will take admissions in the undergraduate courses under the merit-cum-means scheme. Merit-cum-means scheme cover the following universities: GGS Indraprastha University (GGSIPU)Delhi Technological University (DTU)Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IITD)Ambedkar UniversityIndira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for WomenDelhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University. “The scheme will also be extended to the Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology as and when the institution becomes a state university. Students from a family covered under the National Food Security Scheme will get a 100 per cent fee- waiver while those from families with Rs 2.5 lakh annual income will get a waiver of 50 per cent,” Sisodia said.
