Private Engineering colleges witnessed 54% vacant seats last year

As data showed by the Lok Sabha on Monday revealed that the private Engineering colleges in country have reached their saturation point. Last year, around 54% of the undergraduate and graduate seats in the private engineering colleges could not find any candidates as a result of which, for the academic year 2017-18, the private institutes withdrew 96,000 seats.Also, the number of engineering colleges in country went down by 83. AICTE council chairman D Sahasrabuddhe, in April, said that 275 colleges in the country had applied for the closure.Comparing the results with the government engineering college it was found that in those colleges only 28% seats went vacant in the academic year 2016-17. For the academic year 2017-18, 6151 seats in the colleges were added.The maximum vacant seats in the private colleges were in Himachal Pradesh (83%) and were then followed by the following colleges: Uttarakhand (74.23%)Haryana (73.32%)Rajasthan (69.68 %)Uttar Pradesh (67.33%)
