Delhi government to regularize 170 Kashmiri Pandit teachers
Delhi cabinet has made the decision to regularize 170 Kashmiri Pandit teachers as they have been working in various government schools of Delhi since 1994. Issuing a statement about the decision of Delhi cabinet, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said "the government had given them jobs when they had fled from the violence in Kashmir and come to Delhi. We have decided to regularize them. There are three aspects to this — first, there will be an age relaxation; second, recruitment rules will be changed for this and finally the Central Teacher Eligibility Test will not be necessary for them". He further added "this is an important step for these people… we hope it will relieve some of the tension they have faced for all these years".Earlier, in the same matter, Delhi High Court had also given directions to Delhi government and three Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCDs) to create posts for these Kashmiri teachers who are working under much lower salary and without any benefits from past 20 years. He further told that the government has decided once again to send the proposal of Rs 1 crore ex-gratia relief to the family of deceased Ram Kishan Grewal-- a former soldier of the Indian Army, who committed suicide in the protest related to the OROP scheme last year-- which they rejected earlier. We hope they pass it. "The Cabinet discussed the issue and has decided to send the proposal to the L-G again,” he added.
