NDMC launched digital libraries



On Thursday, New Delhi Municipal Council launched digital libraries, which is a reason for the books lovers to rejoice as the digital libraries contain more than 68 lakh books in the database. The step was taken in order to digitize the education further in country and to cater the needs of the students from primary level to PhD.According to the reports from DNA, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu launched the libraries. The libraries would be accessible on the NDMC website and mobile application for free of cost. Digital libraries are a part of Smart Classroom initiative which aims to digitize the Indian education system in the schools. An NDMC spokesperson said, "With an aim to improve education to move ahead in the digital era, the NDMC has endeavored to provide digital libraries in its schools using the e-Granthalaya Integrated Library Management Software from National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India". "Students can have access to over 68 lakh books on subjects like literature, mythology, science, research papers and academics free of cost," added the spokesperson.He also told media that the council is now planning on digitizing all the public libraries While, addressing the media during the launch event of libraries, Naidu said that school library will promote knowledge and will help in building a community driven by knowledge which will help and ensure the future of the children. Books are everyone's best friend as they can provide the person with company during good and bad days, Naidu said.
