Students' voice to matter during the NAAC accreditation

Students' voice to matter during the NAAC accreditation

Following the policy of various educational institutes abroad, Indian students will now enjoy the right to have an equal say in the accreditation of the university. NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) has recently revised the process for evaluating the universities as a result of which it will now also consider the feedback from the students of the university/college, which is seeking the accreditation from NAAC. Under the newly introduced evaluation process, colleges and universities will now prepare a self-study report and made it available online to be filled by the students. “The report will be validated with the help of a student satisfaction survey by NAAC,” said a senior official at the Council. “Through the new methodology, NAAC has made its assessment and accreditation process digitized and technology-driven lesser human intervention than before,” he added. “The reform is aimed at bringing NAAC evaluation process at par with some of the best practices followed across the world and to put a check on institutions providing false information regarding manpower, infrastructure and facilities,” said senior professor at Allahabad University PK Sahoo. “I believe that the sudden shift should have been avoided. The new system should have been tested as a pilot project in select institutions and then it should have been introduced,” he said.Sahoo said that including the feedback from the students is a welcome step, but only feedback from regular students need to be ensured.
