Olympiad quiz on constitution: 1500 students took part
‘Olympiad on the Indian Constitution and Human Rightsʼ contest concluded on Sunday and about 1500 students from 10 colleges participated in the contest.The main purpose of the event was to create awareness about the human rights and constitution of India and was the initiative of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), in association with M/S Tech Trainers and Testers Pvt Ltd. In order to help the students prepare for the contest, BARTI provided the students with study manual and conducted seminars in colleges between October 8 and 16. Manoj Waghmare, a project manager at Tech Trainers and Testers, said, “This was our first project with BARTI. We wanted to help them in creating awareness about the Constitution… It was a great project, as it helped the students know their fundamental rights and duties better.”Top two slots at the contest were won by the students from College of Engineering, Pune, (COEP) and third runner up was from SP College. Winners of the contest received medal and a ‘Certificate of participation'.Other colleges which participated in the contest were:B J Government Medical College, the Department of Pali of Savitribhai Phule Pune University, the College of Agriculture Pune, the Neville Wadia Institute of Management, the AISSMʼS Institute of Management, the Abeda Inamdar Senior College and the M A Rural Development College and Manet Marine Engineering College.N K Wagholikar from S P College said, “The contest helped us understand the Constitution better. Many students from S P College often appear for competitive exams like the UPSC and the MPSC, which helped them in the competition.”Shabana Shaikh, professor, Department of Political Science, said, “The contest was important for us, as it is one of the subjects M A (Political Science) course. This test gave our students some in-depth knowledge about the Constitution. We would like to participate in more such events.”51 percent of the participants in the contest were from general category and remaining students were from SC, OBC and ST categories.
