Schools in Punjab to remain close on account of accidents due to smog



In view of accidents caused due to smog in Punjab state, the government of Punjab has ordered to keep all private and government schools close for three days from Thursday. According to a press release by state education minister Aruna Chaudhary, the schools in the state will remain shut from November 9 to November 11. She also said that the order is also valid for primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools in the state. Several accidents have been reported in the state due to dense fog which claimed the lives of several people including eight students.PTI reported that nine people including eight students were mowed down by a speeding truck near Bathinda-Chandigarh road. All of them were waiting on the side of the road to catch a bus after their vehicle met with an accident.Many areas of Punjab and Haryana are witnessing dense fog due to onset of winter and burning of paddy stubble.
