Smog effect: Schools in Ghaziabad to remain shut till November 12

With the air pollution rising to critical level in Uttar Pradesh and adjoining states, Ritu Maheshwari, Ghaziabad District Magistrate ordered that the schools be be remain close till class 8 up to November 12.After Delhi, the air filled pollution has hit the state of Uttar Pradesh affecting its various cities with the dangerously poor quality of air.The governments of Delhi and Punjab have also orders the schools in their respective states to remain close in view of alarmingly poor quality of air. In fact, in Punjab there have been few accidents due to low visibility caused by the layer of thick smog. The authorities in Ghaziabad have ordered the sprinkling of water in residential areas to control the pollution and construction activities in the state have also been halted till further notice from the authorities. Noida recorded the worst air quality index (AQI) in past 24 hours.A health warning has also been issued by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) for the children, senior citizens and people with respiratory issues and has asked them to stay inside and avoid morning walk.An official told IANS "The air quality in the state capital is worst in Lalbagh where the average AQI is 463, which was very close to that in Noida in the last 24-hours."Following the bad quality of air, Noida has also ordered the closure of schools till November 10.Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) President Rocky Tuseed also demanded to keep the university close till Sunday due air pollution.In a letter to DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi, Tuseed said "that pollution levels in Delhi had reached extremely alarming levels despite warnings to the agencies concerned and the Delhi government has announced closure of all schools as the PM2.5 levels can adversely affect the health of children."
