Bill to conduct teachers training course without NCTE permission introduced in Parliament

A bill was introduced in the Parliament on Wednesday, which allows central and state universities to conduct teachers' training without getting prior permission from the NCTE. The bill was approved by the union cabinet."The NCTE (Amendment) Act, 2017 will grant retrospective recognition to the central/state universities that are found to be conducting teacher education courses without NCTE permission," said an official release. With the introduction of the bill, students who are studying in or have graduated from teacher training institutions and unrecognized universities will be eligible to employ as teachers. "The retrospective recognition was being given as a one-time measure to ensure that the future of the students who had passed out or were currently enrolled was not jeopardised," the release said. The amendment to the act was proposed by the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD).
