Delhi pollution: Schools to remain shut for few days

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM, has called for a meeting of health and environment department officials to discuss the possibility of shutting down the schools in Delhi for few days due to heavy pollution. On the same matter, CM also consulted the Deputy CM Manish Sisodia who directed the environment department to submit a report on the pollution level in the city. “Delhi has become a gas chamber. Every year this happens during this part of year. We have to find a solution to crop burning in adjoining states. Considering high level of pollution, I have requested Manish Sisodia, Education Minister, to consider closing schools for few days,” Kejriwal said in a tweet. Sisodia also said that the decision on shutting the schools will be taken by the government and odd-even car scheme will be introduced in the city after examination. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will take a final decision on it once the report comes. The Delhi government has requested the Centre several times to intervene in the issue of crop burning in neighbouring states but the central government has not responded yet,” the deputy CM said. The declining quality of air in the city was reveled when the pollutants in the air combined with the moisture in air and formed thick haze which resulted in reduced visibility. As of now, Indian Medical Association (IMA) has requested the government to prohibit any outdoor activity in schools in order to reduce the harmful effects of the air quality.
