Tamil Nadu's last attempt to exempt the state students' from NEET exam
On Monday, a final attempt was made by the TN Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan before the center to exempt the students of Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) 2017.Both the minister met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Minister of State Jitendra Singh at the PMO in order to discuss the issue. “As a final effort, Vijayabaskar met Nadda and Singh to pressure them for an exemption for Tamil Nadu from the National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET),” an official release said and further added that this move was taken by the minister of Tamil Nadu after making many attempts, to convince the ministers of the center. The medical exam was made compulsory by the government for those who wish to pursue studies in the medical field and since its inception the exam has been in various controversies and has seen many protests.Tamil Nadu is seeking the exemption from the exam by saying that the students of state board will be at high disadvantage in comparison to the students of CBSE affiliated schools upon which the syllabus of the exam is based on. The assembly also passed the two bills in February which allow the candidate to take admission into colleges on the basis of class 12 mark-sheet instead of appearing for the NEET exam.
