There will be no increase in the price of the books: NCERT
On Tuesday, it was clarified by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) that there are no plans to increase the price of the NCERT textbooks. “Certain speculative reports about price hike of NCERT books are likely to be exploited by some elements for hoarding and profiteering by creating an artificial shortage of books. No such increase an s likely,” NCERT Director Hrushikesh Senapati said in statement. The statement was issued when rumors about NCERT increasing the price of the textbooks were floating among the people. The news had raised the concerns among the parents. “All NCERT books are available at its portal for downloading free of cost,” Hrushikesh Senapati added. Last time, NCERT raised the prices of its books in 2012 with price of some of the books going up by 50 percent. The hike was big because the charges of printing had increased by many folds. In 2012, NCERT revised the prices of its book after 13 long years.Recently, an announcement was made by the Union School Education and Literacy Ministry Anil Swarup in which he said that all the NCERT books will be made available to the students irrespective of whether they belong to private or public school. He also mentioned that the maximum price of the NCERT books is INR 50 whereas the cost of books by the private publishers can be as high as INR 300 per book.
