200 petitioners to appear for West Bengal TET 2017 exam on HC's directive
200 petitioners were allowed by the Calcutta High Court to appear for the Teachers Eligibility Test. Earlier, these petitioners were unable to appear for the exam due to the changes made by the government in the eligibility criteria for the test. The last date for applying for the TET was October 29. However, Justice Arijit Banerjee in an interim order asked the government to assist the petitioners in filling the online application form.Justice Banerjee also said that this is the final order in the matter and petitioners may lose precious time if not allowed to appear for the exam.On October 9, an order was passed by Government which stated that the applicants of TET must have a specified period of training. After the notification, 200 candidates moved to the high court claiming that the introduced changes in the criteria of eligibility are against the guidelines set up by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).As of now, the court has asked the state government to file an affidavit supporting their side of the argument and the petitioners to file their reply within a week after that. An appropriate bench of the court will hear the matter after four weeks.Advocate General Kishore Dutta, appearing for the state said that the petitioners do not satisfy the criteria laid down by the NCTE.
