Arun Kumar, Panjab University V-C, received a cheque from a man to promote Punjabi
Professor PANDIT Rao Dhaneshwar has written a letter to the V-C of the Punjab University in which he urged him to promote the use of Punjabi language at the university.PROFESSOR PANDIT Rao Dhaneshwar is currently translating Guru Granth Sahib into Kannada language. In the letter PANDIT Rao Dhaneshwar said that Punjab University was established to promote the Punjabi language and to work for its betterment but the university has completely ignored the language and even the sign boards in the university do not use Punjabi language. In his letter he said that UT Home Secretary in 2013 has asked the administration of the University to use the Punjabi language on the signboards but the university completely ignored the orders. He also pointed that the names and designations of many staff members and university officials are only mentioned in English which indicates how the university has been ignorant to the Punjabi language.Taking a dig at the financial situation of the PU, he said that if university's financial status cannot afford the task of writing signboards in Punjabi then he is sending a cheque of INR 5,000 to the university from his personal salary to get the work done.
