Teachers protest against no-leave policy; DoE eases rules

Following the protests by the teachers, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a new circular in which it said that the rule does not apply to the leaves which were issued prior to the order. The new circular also said that the no-leave policy applies only to teachers of classes IX to XII and not to teachers of classes Nursery to VIII.Earlier, DoE had issued the circular after taking into consideration the disappointing results of the summative assessment-I and shortage of teachers in the government schools of Delhi. DoE also described the year challenging and said ' Class IX students having to study the entire yearʼs syllabus and Class X students giving the board exams basic minimum discipline has to be maintained in schools'. The new circular also said that in case of medical emergency, the leave should not be denied and district education officer should consider all genuine cases.Earlier, the circular stated 'in case of medical emergency, teachers will be referred to the medical board. In case of extreme circumstances, leave has to be approved by the district education office.'All other orders such as reaching the school in advance, holding extra classes and checking the attendance of the students are still in place.
