Students become slaves of coaching institutes: Prakash Javadekar
Criticizing the coaching centers, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday said that these institutes treat students like slaves under the name of training them for admissions into IITs and other prestigious institutes. He further said that the decline in the teaching standard in the schools and colleges is also one of the main reasons why students are more inclined towards coaching centers. Prakash Javadekar was present at the launch of the second edition of Smart India Hackathon 2018 organized at the college of engineering, Pune and said " It is a cause of worry…students from Class VIII become slaves of these coaching institutes. They are being taught to only face competitive exams. The coaching institutes are promoting rote learning and not imparting actual knowledge to the students." He pointed that today teaching is only limited to textbook learning and said ' Very few teachers like to be asked questions, and this has prevented overall understanding of subjects and learning…. This is the reason coaching centers are getting stronger'.The Smart India Hackathon is an initiative from HRD Ministry which aims at involving the students of nation in finding the solutions to the problems which are plaguing the society.Last year, 10,000 engineering students attempted to find the solution of 598 problems which were put forth by the state government and ministries.
