Merger of schools in Punjab put on hold by government

After receiving a lot of fire from the opposition, the Punjab government has decided to put his move, to merge 800 elementary schools with less than 20 students, on hold.Earlier the state education department had announced the merger of 800 elementary schools by October 25. All these schools have less than 20 students studying in them and they were to be merged with the primary schools falling within the radius of one km of these schools. The main of the move was to utilize the teachers effectively. According to the sources, in some schools two-three teachers were posted to teach the strength of five students. As of now, the state education department has put its decision on hold till November as the department is hoping that under the new scheme of admitting pre-primary students, which is unveiling on November 14, these schools may witness the increase in strength.A government official said that 'We hope this gives these schools a new lease of life. Otherwise we will see'.
