Diversity of Aligarh University is being impacted by the practice of Inbreeding: Central Panel

A committee set up by the UGC in its report has said the practice of inbreeding is affecting the diversity of the campus and has recommended that the quota of the vice-chancellor in the university's admission be done away with.It has also recommended that the admissions in the medical college run by the university should be done on the basis of NEET.The committee was set up by the UGC in order to audit the 10 central universities. The central universities were probed for the complaints of financial, administrative and academic irregularities. “The university runs a number of schools and students passing out of these take admission in the university and in many cases they are then considered for faculty positions and end up getting absorbed too. This naturally affects diversity as students from across the country should be considered,” a senior ministry official quoted the report as stating. The findings of the reports will be considered by the ministry and the UGC for further action.The medical college under the university follows its own system if admission and does not follow the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). Officials said that the committee has recommended that the medical college under the AMU should also follow the NEET exam and procedure for admissions.The committee also reported about the gross violations of the UGC rules in the recruitment and promotion of teachers in the university.
