Institutes with better rankings will receive more funds from HRD Ministry

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar after releasing the national rankings for the Indian educational institutes said that the institutes which performed well in the annual national ranking of the NIRF will be granted more funding, better autonomy and other benefits. “The educational institutions performing well in the annual ranking will be awarded with more funding or grants, enhanced autonomy and freedom of functioning and various other benefits,” said Prakash Javadekar, on the occasion of releasing the domestic ranking under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). “Policy regarding the same will be announced soon to encourage the spirit of competition and ultimately enhance the quality of education being imparted by the institutions across the country,” he said. IISc Banglore topped the list under the overall and university category whereas Delhi University's Miranda house was ranked as the best college in the country. JNU managed to secure the second position in the 'universities category' and was ranked third last year. JNU's overall rank however, is sixth. HRD minister, Prakash Javadekar was also quick in clarifying that recognition of the JNU and Jadavpur University is purely for their research work. "JNU and Jadavpur University have not been awarded for their ‘pro-Afzal Guru’ slogans or for keeping their vice chancellor under siege but for their academic credentials and excellent research" he said.Jadavpur University secured fifth rank this year. Several IITs also made it to the list of top 10 domestic educational institutes.
