DU admission round 2: Khalsa College yet to fill 50 seats
In the first round of DU college admissions, SGTB Khalsa college for most of its subjects had set the highest cut-offs for the Undergraduate programs. Now, it is yet to fill majority of its seats even after the admissions were closed on Tuesday following the release of the second list. Due to seats remaining vacant, the college had reduced its cut-off in many subjects by significant amount. On the basis of the first cut-off list the there were zero admissions in the college under the general category.Even now, after dropping the cut-off limit, the admissions in the college have not crossed the mark of 50 while many top colleges have filled their seats and many have closed their admissions for various courses. Even among the 50 odd admissions, majority of the admissions are from minority community because the college reserves seats for the Sikh community. “Most admissions are expected to take place after the third cut-off is released. Percentages will drop further from the second list,” said Nachiketa Singh, a faculty member. Among top colleges, Hindu college over-admitted the students. As of now it has admitted 870 students against the 752 seats. “This is not unusual because we have supernumerary admissions… In science courses, we see withdrawals when students want to join the engineering council or medical council,” said Anita Vishan, convenor of the admission committee.SRCC college has also closed its admission for the general category. “We will keep Psychology, English, Journalism and Political Science; all other courses are closed for general category. Even in these courses, most seats are filled. We are not going to drop our percentage by more than 0.25 per cent,” said LSR principal Suman Sharma.
