Shortage of teachers is affecting the quality of education in government schools

Academic activities in the government primary schools in Bhopal district are all jumbled up due to the shortage of more than 2000 teachers. In fact, more than 2000 posts of the school teachers are lying vacant in the schools of Bhopal district. The shortage of the teachers is not only affecting the academic activities in the district, but the situation is haunting the entire state of Bhopal as more than 50,000 posts of teachers are lying vacant. The situation in the primary government schools of the district is in depressed state, despite the directives from the state government that there must be minimum two teachers in every primary school and three in every middle school. The state cabinet has already given the green signal to the education department for recruiting the 40000 teachers but the posts continue to remain unfulfilled and students are suffering in the schools. "The department of education is taking steps to improve the situation in terms of teachers and implementation of RTE in the state, but there are challenges as state has an acute shortage of regular teachers," said president of teachers' association Mukesh Sharma. He further said "besides dearth of regular teachers, the government has also put a cap on recruiting guest teachers who could have been of some help till the government filled the vacant posts".According to the other group of primary and middle school teachers, assistant teachers are being recruited for the headmaster's post but over-stretched teachers find it difficult to concentrate on the academic part which thereby affects the study of the children."We have a shortage of teachers across the state and, over the years the number of vacancies has increased," said Deepak Joshi, minister of state for school education. "It is all in hands of state education minister Vijay Shah, I don't want to comment on this issue," Deepak Joshi, minister of state for school education, said.
