According to the teachers DU's quota for the Delhi students is a bad idea

The recent move of the Delhi's government to provide 85% reservation to the students from the city in colleges funded by the government met with the oppositions from the teachers of the Delhi University as they call the whole thing a political drama. On Thursday, a resolution was passed by the government which said that they are working to provide 85 percent reservation to the Delhi students in 28 colleges funded by it. Currently, there are 12 colleges in the university which Delhi government funds completely and rest of the 16 colleges receive five percent grant. On this teachers argued that since these colleges constitute the Delhi University there can be no such rule as reservation can be provided to the colleges which are affiliated with the university. At present there are 8 such affiliated colleges Netaji Subhas Institute of TechnologyAyurvedic & Yunani Tibbia CollegeRajkumari Amrit Kaur College of NursingCollege of PharmacyCollege of ArtsNehru Homeopathic CollegeMaharishi Valmiki College of EducationRajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women And all these colleges enjoy the rule of having 85 percent reservation for the Delhi students.The National Democratic Teachersʼ Front, the BJPʼs teacherʼs wing, said, “This is just a political drama. They want to hide their failure by blaming others. They have not been able to fulfill the promise of opening 20 new colleges and are now finding excuses and blaming the DU Act and Central government for their non-performance”.Academics for Action and Development (AAD) teachers group said that the demand of the government is not in the consensus with the charter of the university. “We are committed to resist any amendment to the DU Act to dilute the central universityʼs character,” Rajesh Jha of AAD, who teaches political science at Rajdhani College, said.
